On 03 June 2011 Lucene and Solr commiters published a new, stable version of Lucene library and Solr search engine – both numbered 3.2. You should not expect revolution in terms of new functionalities, but there are few changes worth the look.

Lucene and Solr 3.1
A few minutes ago Lucene and Solr commiters published a new, stable version of Lucene library and Solr search engine – both numbered 3.1. There are numerous changes, but I’ll just mention some of them (following Grant Ingersoll announcement).
CheckIndex for the rescue
While using Lucene and Solr we are used to a very high reliability of this products. However, there may come the day when Solr will inform us that our index is corrupted, and we need to do something about it. Is the only way to repair the index is to restore it from the backup or do full indexation ? Not only – there is hope in the form of CheckIndex tool.
Lucene 3.0.3 and Lucene 2.9.4
A few minutes ago Uwe Schindler announced that there are two new versions of Lucene library available:
Quick look – IndexSorter
At the Apache Lucene Eurocon 2010 conference, which took place in May this year, Andrew Białecki in his presentation talked about how to obtain satisfactory search results when using early termination search techniques. Unfortunately the tool he mentioned, was not available in Solr – but it changed.
Quick look – FieldCollapsing
FieldCollapsing, or in other words grouping of search results has just been commited to the svn repository. I decided to take a look at this functionality and see how it works.
Solr and PhraseQuery – phrase bonus in query stage
In the majority of system implementations I dealt with, sooner or later, there was a problem – search results tunning. One of the simplest ways to improve the search results quality was phrase boosting. Having the three most popular query parsers in Solr and the variety of parameters to control them I though it will be a good idea to check how they behave and how they affect performance.
