For Apache Solr numbered 10 we had to wait for more than 3.5 years, to be precise since 12th May 2022, but it is finally here. It is nice to say that we can now download Apache Solr 10.0.0. Let’s have a look at what we can expect from the newest version of it.
Some of the changes introduced in Apache Solr 10.0.0:
- Java 21 is now the minimum Java version for Apache Solr.
- GPU details were added to the Admin UI.
- New, experimental Admin UI was added – available under URI – /solr/compose.
- When starting Solr using the command line bin/solr Solr now starts in cloud mode by default.
- We can now use modern NLP models from Apache OpenNLP with Solr.
- Changes to Solr vector functionality:
- Support for SeededKnnVectorQuery.
- Support for PatienceKnnVectorQuery.
- Support for scalar quantized dense vectors.
- Support for binary quantized dense vectors.
- Support for cuVS-Lucene as a pluggable codec.
- MergeOnFlushMergePolicy is enabled in Solr.
- Lots of removals for deprecated features:
- LowerCaseTokenizer and LowerCaseTokenizerFactory are now removed.
- ManagedSynonymFilterFactory is now removed.
- JaspellLookupFactory suggester is now removed.
- Analytics component was removed.
- ExternalFileField is now removed.
- CurrencyField is now removed.
- EnumField is now removed.
- Raising the per ramPerThreadHardLimit to be configurable with more than 2GB.
- Any much, much more including dependencies upgrades.
