This is a next release continuing the 4th version of both Apache Lucene and Apache Solr.<\/p>\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<p>Here are some of the changes that were made comparing to the 4.5.1:<\/p>\n<h3>Lucene<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Support for updating fields using <em>NumericDocValues<\/em> through <em>updateNumericDocValue<\/em> method of <em>IndexWriter<\/em><\/li>\n<li>A new FreeTextSuggester<\/li>\n<li>A new&nbsp;<em>DirectDocValuesFormat<\/em> allowing to hold doc values as uncompressed Java arrays on heap<\/li>\n<li>Various bugfixes and optimization since 4.5.1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Solr<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Improvements to shard splitting functionality (<a href=\"http:\/\/solr.pl\/en\/2013\/05\/06\/solr-4-3-shard-splitting-quick-look\/\">more about shard splitting<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>New <em>CollapsingQParserPlugin<\/em> for efficient field collapsing useful for high cardinality fields<\/li>\n<li>SolrJ API for collections management<\/li>\n<li>New EnumField type<\/li>\n<li>Optimizations and bugfixes from Lucene 4.6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Full changes list for Lucene can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.apache.org\/lucene-java\/ReleaseNote46\">http:\/\/wiki.apache.org\/lucene-java\/ReleaseNote46<\/a>.
